POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Despite a second career double-double from junior forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) the Marist women's basketball team (16-8, 12-3 MAAC) fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats (22-3, 14-0 MAAC) for the second time this season, 80-62, Thursday night at McCann Arena.
Blais scored 12 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, added two blocks and two assists in forty minutes of action while senior center Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led all scorers with 25 points and four blocks.
The Bobcats jumped out to an 18 point lead, their largest of the game, at the 5:21 minute mark in the first half but the Red Foxes went on a 15-5 run to respond and head to the half down just 46-38.
In the up and down first half the Red Foxes shot 13-for-26 (.500) from the field, 2-for-5 (.400) from deep, and converted on all 10 of their free throws while the Bobcats shot 10-for-28 (.357) from the field, just 1-9 (.111) from behind the arc and went 3-for-5 from the stripe.
The Red Foxes continued to chip away at the lead from the onset of the second half and an Allie Clement (Falmouth, Maine) jumper would bring the deficit to 55-54 at the 12:40 mark. The Bobcats would respond with a 21-4 run after the Red Foxes cut it to just one and would cruise to the victory from there.
The tale of the game was the Red Foxes inefficiency from three point range, 3-for-14 (.210), overall and the amount of offensive rebounds relinquished. The Bobcats hit the offensive glass hard and came away with 20 offensive rebounds to just one for the Red Foxes.
For the Bobcats Nikoline Ostergaaard would lead the way with 21 points and eight rebounds and Quinnipiac overall would have four scorers end the game in double digits.
Up next the Red Foxes team up with the Miles of Hope Foundation to “Pink the House” for breast cancer awareness and their annual pack the house game as they take on Niagara for the second time this season, Saturday Feb. 14 at 7 P.M.
