POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist men's basketball team (5-21 overall, 4-12 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) hosts Iona (21-6, 14-2) on Friday at 9 p.m. The contest will be televised live on ESPNU. Friday's game is the first of a three-game homestand for the Red Foxes.
In its last outing on Monday, Marist suffered a 69-65 loss at Monmouth. Red-shirt sophomore guard Khallid Hart (Newark, Del.) scored a game-high 21 points. Senior guard/forward Manny Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a season-high 16 points, and senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) tallied 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and three steals.
Lewis enters Friday's game with 1,988 career points, which puts him 90 shy of overtaking Steve Smith for first place in program history. Lewis and Thomas are currently tied for first place in program history with 117 games played. They are tied with Jared Jordan, Andy Lake and Ben Farmer.
Iona enters the contest having won eight straight. As a team, Iona leads the MAAC in scoring offense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, assists, assist-to-turnover ratio and made three-pointers. Individually, the Gaels have three of the top seven scorers in the conference in David Laury (first), A.J. English (third) and Schadrac Casimir (seventh).
Friday's game will be broadcast live on WKIP (1450 AM) in Poughkeepsie, the Red Fox Network and iHeartRadio, with Dean Darling (play-by-play) and Ed Weir (color) on the call.
