POUHGKEEPSIE, N.Y. -?The Marist men's basketball team fought hard, but fell 72-68 to Iona in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Friday night.

Senior guard/forward Chavaughn Lewis (Queens, N.Y.) led all scorers with 25 points and eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for his career at Marist. Lewis is just the second player to achieve this in program history, as he became the first since Steve Smith in 1983 to reach this milestone.

Senior guard T.J. Curry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a career-high 17 points for the Red Foxes and had a team-high seven rebounds.

Iona senior David Laury scored a team-high 21 points, and hauled in 18 rebounds. Freshman Schadrac Casimir and junior A.J. English each contributed 19 points for the Gaels.

Marist led for 11:22 of the game. A three-point basket by?Curry with 31 seconds left in the first half allowed the Red Foxes to go into halftime with a 35-34 lead. The Red Foxes led by as many as nine in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, Iona started on a 12-2 run to gain a 48-39 lead with 13:18 left to play. The Gaels grew their lead to its largest margin of 15 points leading 61-46 with 8:06 remaining in the game. A jumper by Lewis at the 5:51 mark started a 15-3 run for the Red Foxes to pull within three points with 21 seconds remaining, down 69-66.

English made three free throws in the final 15 seconds to preserve the Iona lead for good.

Marist fell to 5-22 overall and 4-13 in the MAAC. Iona improved to 22-6 overall and a conference best 15-2 record in MAAC play.

Marist will return to action on Monday, Feb. 23, when it hosts Manhattan. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in McCann Arena. Tickets are available by clicking here.

Notes: Lewis now stands at 2,013 career points. He is 65 points away from passing Smith for first place all-time in program history. ... On Friday, Lewis and senior guard/forward Manny Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y.) broke the program's all-time record for games played. Lewis and Thomas have now played in 118 career games. The previous record of 117 was held by Jared Jordan, Andy Lake and Ben Farmer. ... Lewis also had four steals in the game. It was his 42nd career game with at least 20 points, and 17th with at least four steals.
