JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Despite 23 points from junior forward Madeline Blais  and senior center Tori Jarosz's 10th double-double of the season, the Marist women's basketball team (18-10, 14-5 MAAC) dropped a game to the Saint Peter's Peacocks (4-24, 4-15 MAAC), 66-58, Thursday night at the Yanitelli Center.

Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Blais (Exeter, N.H.) added six rebounds to her game-high 23 points but overall the Red Foxes were flat and tentative and it showed in the final result. In the most telling stat of the game the Peacocks out rebounded the Red Foxes 49-29 and pulled down 17 offensive rebounds to the Red Foxes eight.

The Red Foxes had their chances in the final half but Saint Peter's found an answer seemingly every time down the floor. With under 10 minutes to play in the second half and the Peacocks holding a 47-43 lead, Blais nailed a three pointer for her 23rd points of the game. Saint Peter's immediately came back down the floor and answered with a three of their own.

Another three pointer from freshman guard Allie Clement (Falmouth, Maine) would later knot the score at 52 with 5:34 remaining and again Saint Peter's answered with a three of their own to take a 55-52 lead and one they wouldn't relinquish.

With 4:29 remaining the Red Foxes found themselves in the bonus, the Red Foxes went to the line twice in the possession thanks to a timely offensive rebound but missed the front end of both of the one-and-one opportunities, the Peacocks then came down the floor and drilled another three pointer to extend the lead to six and take full control.

Although the Red Foxes finished 17-for-22 (.773) from the free throw line there were big misses from the stripe down the stretch that would lead to big baskets for the Peacocks. The Red Foxes are now 0-3 on the season in games without their star guard junior Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn).

In a back and forth first half that saw the score tied three times and the lead change three times, Blais led the way scoring 14 points and grabbing four rebounds. Blais did most of her damage on drives to the basket, shooting 4-for-5 from the field and 1-for-2 from behind the arc in 18 minutes of action. Jarosz finished the half with six points and pulled down seven rebounds.

The Red Foxes as a team shot 10-for-29 (.345) from the field but just 1-for-8 (.125) from three point range in the first half. The Peacocks shot 11-for-28 (.393) from the floor but didn't convert on a single shot from deep. The Red Foxes outscored Saint Peter's in the paint 14-10 in the first and grabbed 17 rebounds to the Peacocks 20. Overall in a very even first half the Red Foxes headed to the locker room with a 28-27 lead.

The Red Foxes conclude their season against the Rider Broncs Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 P.M. in Lawrenceville, N.J. The Red Foxes are 25-1 against Rider during Brian Giorgis' tenure as the head coach, winning 24 in a row over the Broncs.
