LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Career high efforts from both sophomore guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) and junior forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) propelled the Marist women's basketball team (19-10, 15-5 MAAC) to a 65-56 win over the Rider Broncs (11-19, 8-12 MAAC), Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

Lai came up huge on both the offensive and defensive end, recording a career high in points, rebounds and field goals, Lai scored 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting, grabbed seven boards, tied a career high in steals with four, and dished out a game high six assists in 35 minutes of action, one short of her career high in minutes played.

Blais notched her career high in points with 28 on 7-for-11 shooting, 3-for-4 from three point range, and went a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw stripe. Her performance from the free throw line was also a career high in free throws made and attempted. Leaving the season better than she started, Blais' career high 28 points bested the career high 27 points she put up in the first game of the season against Delaware.

The Red Foxes big run came at the 15:50 mark when they used a 10-0 run to swing a 38-29 deficit into a 39-38 lead. From there the Red Foxes played cool and calm on the offensive end and locked down on the defensive end holding the Broncs to just 7-for-30 (.233) shooting in the second half.

A Blais three pointer from the corner with just under two minutes remaining would give the Red Foxes a ten point lead and enough to leave the Broncs' Zoo with a victory.

The Broncs started the game on a 14-3 run behind two three pointers and an array of mid-range jump shots as the Red Foxes played catch up for the rest of the half, trailing by as many as 15 points in the half. The Free throw line kept the Red Foxes in the game, as a team they made 14 trips to the stripe, converting on nine of them. A 6-0 run over the final 3:21 brought the Broncs halftime lead to just nine heading into the locker room.

As a team the Red Foxes shot 6-for-21 (.286) from the field and 2-for-3 (.667) from deep in the first half. The Bronc assisted on 10 of their 13 made baskets and shot 4-for-8 (.500) from behind the arc. The teams each scored six points in the paint while Rider scored 11 points off eight Marist turnovers and the Red Foxes scored eight points off six Broncs turnovers.

The win over the Broncs' wraps up the regular season for the Red Foxes as the MAAC Championships begin next week in Albany, N.Y. at the Times Union Center. The Red Foxes have locked up the #2 seed, receive a first round bye, and will begin play on Friday, March 6th at 7 P.M., opponent to be determined on Thursday.
