Box Score BRIDGEPORT, CONN. – The Marist baseball team (1-9) jumped out to an early lead, but fell 7-5 to Albany (3-7) Tuesday afternoon.
Junior center fielder Graham McIntire (Concord, N.H.) was 3-for-3 at the plate with a team-high two RBI's. Sophomore designated hitter Tyler Kirkpatrick (Eagleville, Pa.) went 1-for-5 with two runs scored and one runner batted in. Junior left fielder Matt Pagano (Cranston, R.I.) scored one run for the Red Foxes and was 1-for-3 at the plate.
The Red Foxes got on the board right away in the first inning after Pagano got in scoring position of a double, only to be driven in by a McIntire single. Marist would score three runs in the second inning to extend its lead to 4-0. Redshirt sophomore right fielder Zachary Racusin (Mendham, N.J.) was driven in when junior shortstop John Brucker (Sparta, N.J.) grounded out to first base. Kirkpatrick would triple allowing junior third basemen Matt Belitz (Ossining, N.Y.) to score who reached after being hit by a pitch. Kirkpatrick would then score on a fielder's choice. Albany would grab its first run of the day in the third inning bringing the score to 4-1.
Marist would add another run to its total in the fourth inning when a McIntire single allowed Kirkpatrick to score. Albany would grab one run in the fifth, and then five more in the sixth to take the lead for good at 7-5.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Stephen Priolo (0-1) (Voorhees, N.J.), who pitched 0.0 innings, picked up the loss for Marist. Priolo gave up two runs on one hit and one batter walked. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Tyler Dearden (LaGrange, N.Y.) started for the Red Foxes pitching 5.0 innings giving up seven hits and two earned runs. Daniel Castro (1-0) who pitched 2.0 innings picked up the win for Albany. Castro gave up zero hits and zero earned runs.
The Red Foxes return to action on Friday, March 20 to take on Sacred Heart. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
