Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK – The Marist baseball team (4-11) had its winning streak stopped at three games with a 7-2 loss at Wagner (4-8-1) on Thursday night.
Junior shortstop John Brucker (Sparta, New Jersey) led the way for the Red Foxes going 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Sophomore designated hitter Greg Kocinski (Belle Mead, New Jersey) drove in the only other run for the Red Foxes and was 1-for-4. Sophomore left fielder Tyler Kirkpatrick (Eagleville, Pennsylvania) went 2-for-4, while redshirt sophomore Zachary Racusin (Mendham, New Jersey) was 2-for-5.
The Red Foxes scored the first run of the game in the first inning after junior center fielder Graham McIntire (Concord, New Hampshire) got on base on a fielder's choice only to be hit home by a Kocinski double. The Seahawks would answer with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first to gain the lead for the first and final time. In the first at bat for Marist in the second inning Brucker sent one over the wall to bring the score to 4-2. Wagner scored another run in the second inning to regain its three run lead.
The Red Foxes failed to get their bats going for the remainder of the game unable to cross home plate again. Wagner added one run in the sixth inning, and another in the eighth to end the game with a final score of 7-2.
Freshman right-hander Spencer Bunting (Rocky Hill, Connecticut) (0-3), who pitched 2.0 innings, picked up the loss for Marist. Bunting struck out two batters, and gave up five hits and five earned runs. Junior right-handed pitcher Erik Bauer (Putnam Valley, New York) pitched 3.0 innings, striking out five batters and giving up four hits with only one earned run. Mike Adams (2-1) picked up the win for Wagner, striking out six batters and giving up eight hits and only two earned runs.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, March 28 for the home opener against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Iona. The game will be played at Bard College with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
