ALBANY, N.Y. -- The second-seeded Marist women's basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Championship with a 62-57 victory over 10th-seeded Saint Peter's at the Times Union Center on Friday.

Red-shirt senior center Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard/forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.), who scored her 1,000th career point in the game, finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard/forward Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.) had 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting.

Antonia Smith led Saint Peter's (5-26) with 18 points. Sajanna Bethea had 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The game included six ties and four lead changes, and neither team led by more than eight. Marist jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and held Saint Peter's scoreless for the first 3:15. However, an 11-0 Saint Peter's run gave the Peacocks a 15-9 lead with 8:42 left in the first half.

The Red Foxes clawed back, and a three-pointer by Blais put them up 25-20 with 2:15 left in the first half. The Peacocks answered with a 7-0 run to close the half, and a basket by Talah Hughes with two seconds left in the half gave Saint Peter's a 27-25 advantage going into the locker room.

With 17:04 to play, two free throws by Bethea gave Saint Peter's its largest lead at 32-25. Marist chipped away at its deficit, and a layup by Jarosz with 9:27 to play gave Marist back the lead at 42-40.

Blais drained a three-pointer with 7:08 to go, which gave Marist its largest lead at 51-43. Saint Peter's dug in defensively, and allowed just two field goals to the Red Foxes over the next six minutes. A jumper by Smith with 1:06 to go tied the score at 57 apiece, but Jarosz hit a layup on Marist's next possession, which gave Marist the lead for good with 48 seconds to go. Marist held Saint Peter's scoreless on its final three possessions, and the Red Foxes preserved the lead by going 3-for-4 from the line in the final 20 seconds.

Marist (20-10) has now won 20 games in 12 consecutive seasons, and won its 27th straight game in the MAAC Championships. The Red Foxes advance to the semifinal round, and will play next at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Red Foxes will take on #3 Fairfield.
