ALBANY, N.Y. - The Marist women's basketball team has advanced to its 12th straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game. The second-seeded Red Foxes defeated third-seeded Fairfield by a score of 67-50 at the Times Union Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Foxes had a pair of 20-point scorers in junior guard/forward Madeline Blais (Exeter, N.H.) and junior guard/forward Sydney Coffey (Hopkins, Minn.), who scored 21 and 20, respectively. Blais drained her first five field-goal attempts, and finished 7-for-10 from the field, 2-for-3 from three-point range, and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Coffey connected on three three-pointers, and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Red-shirt senior center Tori Jarosz (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had 10 points, a game-high eight rebounds to go along with three assists. Senior guard Natalie Gomez-Martinez (Andover, Mass.) had a game-high six assists against just one turnover.

Kristin Schatzlein led Fairfield with 11 points, and connected on three of four three-pointers. Samantha Cooper added 10 points, and tied for the team high with seven rebounds.

Both sides came out with hot shooting, and the Stags led 22-19 just 7:32 into the contest. Marist responded by holding Fairfield to just four points for the rest of the half, and took a 37-26 halftime lead. The Red Foxes ended up going on a 31-9 run over a span of 22:14 to pull away. The Red Foxes' largest lead was 19, and they never led by less than 11 in the second half.

Marist shot a season-best .511 (23-for-45) from the field, and was .500 (7-for-14) from three-point range and .700 (14-for-20) from the free-throw line. The Red Foxes held Fairfield to just .298 (17-for-57) shooting from the field.

Marist will face top-seeded Quinnipiac in Monday's championship game. The Bobcats swept the regular-season series from the Red Foxes. The game is a rematch from last year's championship game, which Marist won by a score of 70-66.

Marist will be aiming for its 10th straight conference championship, and 11th overall.
