POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK- The Marist men's tennis team emerged victorious on senior day as they defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Saint Peter's, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion.
On a day celebrating senior captains Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) and Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) the Red Foxes secured the doubles point against a shorthanded Saint Peter's team after a match win from freshman Rudolf Kurz (Oberpullendorf, Austria) and teammate Dylan Fletcher plus a default at the number three position.
The Red Foxes then took care of business in singles with wins from Dube, Kurz, junior Julien Hochner (Nice, France) and defaults at the number five and six singles positions.
“What a great day for tennis. Saint Peter's was undermanned but their one and two players were very good having beaten a number of other one and two's throughout the conference,” said head coach Tim Smith. “I was very pleased with the way Justin competed and the way Rudy was able to pull out a win at number two.”
The team has a quick turnaround as they face off against MAAC foe Siena tomorrow afternoon at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion.
