Box Score 2 BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK – The Marist baseball team (9-17-1, 4-5 MAAC) played a doubleheader with Binghamton on Wednesday evening losing in the first game 7-3, before a loss of daylight ended the second game at a 9-9 tie.
Game One: Binghamton 7, Marist 3
Senior first baseman Steve Laurino (Carle Place, New York) led the Red Foxes on 2-for-3 with one RBI. Junior left fielder Matt Pagano (Cranston, Rhode Island) was 1-for-3 with one RBI, while junior second basemen Joey Aiola (Suffern, New York) was 1-for-3.
The Red Foxes scored first in the top of the second inning when junior shortstop John Brucker (Sparta, New Jersey) hit a sacrifice fly and Laurino scored. Binghamton tied the game with a run of its own in the bottom half of the second.
Binghamton added to its lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and four runs in the fifth. The Red Foxes scored two runs in the sixth inning when Pagano reached on a fielder's choice and sophomore right fielder Tyler Kirkpatrick (Eagleville, Pennsylvania) and freshman third basemen Ryan Lynch (Portsmouth, Rhode Island) scored.
Sophomore right-hander Sean Keenan pitched 1.0 innings in the loss for Marist. Keenan (0-3) gave up two hits and two earned runs with one strikeout. Nicholas Liegi (Holbrook, New York), who pitched 2.0 innings, picked up the win for Binghamton. Liegi (1-1) gave up no hits and no earned runs.
Game Two: Marist 9, Binghamton 9
Laurino had another impressive game from the plate going 3-for-4 with five RBIs and one run scored. Senior catcher Mark Brennan (Wallingford, Connecticut) had two RBIs on 1-for-2. Redshirt sophomore center fielder Zachary Racusin (Mendham, New Jersey) had two runs scored on 1-for-3 with one RBI.
The Red Foxes fell behind early when Binghamton scored two runs in the first, and four in the second. Marist got on the board in the third inning when Brennan hit a RBI single up the middle. The Red Foxes had a productive inning in the fourth scoring five runs. Racusin hit an RBI single to left field, and Laurino hit a grand slam to tie the game at 6-6.
Binghamton scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead at 9-6. In the sixth Pagano hit a fielder's choice RBI, then Brennan hit a sacrifice fly RBI to pull the Red Foxes within one. The Red Foxes tied the game in the seventh when Laurino hit a RBI single to center field.
Junior right-handed pitcher Erik Bauer (Putnam Valley, New York) pitched a scoreless 3.2 innings for Marist. He gave up two hits and had one strikeout. Matt Gordon pitched a one run 2.2 innings for Binghamton. Gordon gave up six hits and had zero strikeouts.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, April 18 for a doubleheader with Rider. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
