Marist Has Significant Presence at Walkway Over the Hudson Marathon

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist College was a significant presence at the inaugural Walkway Over the Hudson Marathon, which was held Saturday morning in the Hudson Valley.

Many current and former Marist athletes, as well as several members of the Marist community, also participated in the event. Rising Marist sophomore Steven Rizzo, a Wappingers Falls native and Roy C. Ketcham High School graduate who just completed his first year on the Red Foxes' cross country and track & field teams, won the 5K in 15:41. The half-marathon champion was Marist graduate Will Griffin (1:11.40). Griffin became the first Marist track & field athlete to participate in NCAA Regionals in 2011, the same year he was named Marist Sportsperson of the Year.

The Walkway Marathon was a collaborative effort between several entities in Dutchess County. Marist's historic Cornell boathouse served as the start and finish lines.
