POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Chavaughn Lewis, the all-time leading scorer in the history of the Marist men's basketball program, will start his professional career with the Philadelphia 76ers in summer league action.
Lewis is one of 12 players on Philadelphia's roster for the Utah Jazz Summer League. The 76ers are scheduled to play games on July 6, July 7 and July 9 at EnergySolutions Arena, the home of the Jazz in Salt Lake City, Utah. Philadelphia will hold a mini-camp from July 2-5.
“We are very proud of everything Chavaughn has accomplished, and are excited about his opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing at the highest level,” Marist head coach Mike Maker said. “On behalf of the entire Marist community, we wish Chavaughn the best of luck.”
Lewis worked out for the 76ers twice in the span of a week prior to the NBA Draft. Former Marist assistant coach Eugene Burroughs, who coached for the Red Foxes from 2000-04 and 2013-14, works for Philadelphia as an assistant coach for player development, with an emphasis on shooting.
Lewis played for the Red Foxes from 2011-15, and scored 2,119 points. In his senior year, he finished 10th in the country in scoring and 13th in steals. Lewis participated in the Portsmouth Invitational, and averaged 16.7 points in three games while shooting .548 from the field. In May, Lewis graduated from Marist with a bachelor's in Criminal Justice.
