POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Following a 45-minute lightning delay, the Marist men's soccer team lost to University of New Hampshire, 3-1, in its home opener Sunday. The Red Foxes are now 1-1-0 on the young season.

Senior Connor Preece put the Red Foxes on the board first, converting on a penalty kick in the 36th minute. Fewer than seven minutes later, UNH defender Connor Pauley headed in his first goal of the season for the equalizer.

The Wildcats (2-0-0) continued to pressure in the second half by scoring two more times off the legs of senior Ben Ramin and junior Karl Frisk.

"We got through the first 20 minutes and played really well, but they started moving a little more and we started sagging in a little bit," head coach Matt Viggiano said.

Freshman Bruce Jeter had four of Marist's 11 shots, including one that was blocked in the 79th minute. In goal, sophomore Mark Rajovic had three saves.

The Red Foxes continue their home stand with a 7 p.m. match against NJIT on Sept. 5.
