POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's soccer team scored early and then held strong on defense as they defeated the Binghamton Bearcats, 1-0, Saturday night at Tenney Stadium. The Red Foxes picked up their second win of the season and now stand at 2-3-0 heading into a three game road trip.

“I thought we had control of the game and played really well, we're building on things that we did well at Columbia,” said head coach Matt Viggiano. “We stuck to our principles defensively and the guys found a way to win. That's the most important thing, we're trying to learn how to win and I think tonight the guys took a big step towards that.”

In the 12th minute of action Cameron Harr scored his second goal of the season for the Red Foxes after pressuring a back pass to the goalkeeper. Harr pressed hard, blocked the goalkeeper's clearance attempt, and put the ball in the net from just inside the box.

From there the Red Foxes and Bearcats traded shots and possession. A torrential downpour kept the quality chances at a minimum but the game was physical and hard-fought.

The Red Foxes had a chance to put some distance between them and Binghamton when a hand ball in the box led to a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Connor Preece was unable to convert, hitting the cross bar on the attempt.

Marist goalkeeper Mark Rajovic came up big for the Red Foxes at the right moments, controlling the back line and making key saves. Rajovic's save on Binghamton's Connor Nealis' volley in the 85th minute proved to be just enough to keep the Bearcats at bay and secure the win for the Red Foxes.

Next up the Red Foxes start a three-game stint on the road starting with a game against Stony Brook on Wednesday, September 16 at 7 p.m.
