BUFFALO, New York – The Marist women's soccer team suffered a late overtime defeat to Canisius, 2-1 Wednesday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. Canisius' Emily Kuta scored the game-winner with just one minute remaining in overtime.

A goal from Canisius' Samantha Gagliano in the 43rd minute got the Griffins on the board first and sent the Red Foxes into the locker room trailing after a half in which they led in shots 11-6, and corners 3-0.

Marist rebounded from the halftime deficit as a corner kick from Danielle Glazer was deflected into the net by a Canisius player 10 minutes into the second half. From there the teams traded chances and in the 81st minute the Red Foxes came the closest to winning in regulation when a shot from Juliette Loccisano hit the crossbar.

The Red Foxes down to 10 players for the final seven minutes of regulation and the duration of overtime, after a red card to sophomore keeper Makala Foley, mounted 27 shots in the game to the Griffin's 14.

Foley had amassed seven saves before she had to exit, including a diving shot from just outside the right corner of the box in the 69th minute to keep the game level at one. For the Griffins, Kailee Defranks stopped a career high 11 shots in 109 minutes of action.

Leading the way in shots for the Red Foxes was Hope Quinonez who had seven shots (four on goal) including a penalty kick attempt right at the start of the second overtime that was kept out by the Griffin's keeper. Loccisano, Glazer, and Ashlee Burke each had four shots for Marist.

With the loss the Red Foxes move to 2-7-1 and 1-2 in MAAC play while the Griffins improved to 3-7-2, 1-2 in the MAAC.The Red Foxes continue on the road as they take on Saint Peter's in MAAC action on Saturday, October 3rd in Jersey City, New Jersey at 12 p.m.
