A goal from Canisius' Samantha Gagliano in the 43rd minute got the Griffins on the board first and sent the Red Foxes into the locker room trailing after a half in which they led in shots 11-6, and corners 3-0.
Marist rebounded from the halftime deficit as a corner kick from Danielle Glazer was deflected into the net by a Canisius player 10 minutes into the second half. From there the teams traded chances and in the 81st minute the Red Foxes came the closest to winning in regulation when a shot from Juliette Loccisano hit the crossbar.
The Red Foxes down to 10 players for the final seven minutes of regulation and the duration of overtime, after a red card to sophomore keeper Makala Foley, mounted 27 shots in the game to the Griffin's 14.
