WEST LONG BRANCH, New Jersey - The Marist women's basketball team dropped their second consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game, falling to the Monmouth Hawks, 60-52, Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Red Foxes move to 4-11 overall and 3-2 in MAAC play. The Hawks improve to 5-9 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Tori Jarosz scored 22 points, tying her season high, and pulled down 12 rebounds, good for her 10th double-double of the season. Jarosz also finished the game with six blocks, one short of tying the Marist single game record for the third time.

Sydney Coffey scored 14 points, had three assists and two rebounds in the losing effort. Freshman Claire Oberdorf, who scored all of her points in the third quarter, finished with a career-high seven points.

The Hawks started hot from the floor, connecting on five of their first seven shots from the field as the Red Foxes struggled to hit shots from anywhere outside the paint. Marist kept themselves close throughout the first quarter by drawing trips to the free throw stripe, connecting on 7-for-8 from the line. After the first the Hawks carried an 18-13 lead into the second quarter.

The defense picked up for both teams in the second as each held one another to a single digit scoring quarter, nine for Marist and eight for Monmouth. The Red Foxes failed to make a three in the first half, going 0-for-5 from deep, but were aggressive in driving the lane and drawing fouls, converting on 10-for-12 of their trips to the stripe. On the flip side, after starting hot, Monmouth finished the half 11-for-34 from the field and 3-for-12 from three point range.

Jarosz led the Red Foxes in the first half, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds and Coffey chipped in with seven points and takes to the hoop that led to a 3-for-4 performance from the free throw line. The Red Foxes only other scorer in the first half was Maura Fitzpatrick who finished the half with two points and two rebounds.

A three from Oberdorf at 6:17 left in the third quarter would give Marist a brief 31-30 lead, the team's first of the game, but it was quickly answered by Monmouth on the next possession. The Hawks then used a 6-0 run to take a 34-31 lead heading into the first media timeout of the third quarter. Overall, after the Red Foxes took the lead, the Hawks responded with a 14-5 run to end the quarter and headed to the fourth with a 44-36 lead.

Marist and Monmouth started the fourth quarter trading baskets until a three from Coffey cut it to six, 51-45, with 6:05 remaining in the fourth. After a response from Monmouth, a hoop and a harm from Jarosz at the 4:50 mark sent her to the line heading out of a media timeout.

Jarosz missed the free throw and after a few defensive possessions Monmouth's Sarah Olson drained a three from the top of the arc to take a 56-47 lead with 3:32 left. Clement answered right back with a three of her own from straight away and cut the deficit back to six. After a stop and two free throws from Jarosz the Red Foxes had cut the Monmouth lead back down to four with 2:33 remaining but it was the closest Marist would get.

The Red Foxes travel to take on the Manhattan Jaspers to conclude their first three conference road game stretch of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
