BRONX, New York – The Marist women's basketball team led by a career high 27 points from Tori Jarosz snapped a two game losing streak by defeating the Manhattan Jaspers, 79-73, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium.

Jarosz finished the game tying a career high in rebounds with 17 and a game high six blocks to go along with tying her career high in points. Sydney Coffey poured in 23 points for Marist, shooting 7-for-11 from the field and 3-for-5 from deep, to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Allie Clement also finished the game with a stuffed stat sheet, scoring 14 points on 4-for-8 shooting from behind the arc, grabbing five rebounds, and dishing out four assists along with two steals.

Overall the Red Foxes shot extremely well, finishing the game over 50 percent from the floor (28-for-51) for the second time this season, and hitting on eight of the teams 16 attempts from three point range. The Red Foxes also controlled the glass, outrebounding Manhattan 37-30 overall, and 27-16 on the defensive side of the ball.

Both teams started hot in the first quarter, combining to go 7-for-8 from three point range (4-for-5 for Marist and 3-for-3 for Manhattan). Coffey hit her first two threes to push Marist to an 8-3 early lead as the Red Foxes led the quarter wire-to-wire, taking a 20-17 lead into the second period.

The Jaspers brought it back to a one point game early in the second quarter before a third jumper from Coffey extended the lead for the Red Foxes.  The Jaspers fought back and tied the score at 28 all with 4:36 remaining in the half. A jumper from Jarosz was quickly answered by a three from Manhattan and the Jaspers took their first and only lead of the game at 31-30 with 4:01 remaining in the half. The Red Foxes responded by locking down on defense for the remainder of the half, holding the Jaspers to 0-for-5 to close the quarter, taking a 36-31 lead into the locker room.

Marist opened the new half 6-for-6 and took a 13 point lead, 50-37, just four minutes into the quarter. Consecutive buckets from Marist, Fitzpatrick with a lay-in and Coffey with a three, pushed the Red Foxes lead to 55-41 with 4:31 left in the third. The Jaspers responded with a 9-4 run to close the quarter and pulled the deficit back to 59-50 heading into the final period.

An 8-2 run to start the fourth quarter capped by a three from Clement gave Marist their largest lead of the game, 67-52, with just over seven minutes remaining but Manhattan responded with a 7-0 run to cut the deficit back down to single digits. A lay-in from Jarosz snapped the scoreless streak and gave Marist a ten point lead with five minutes to go.

The Red Foxes have now concluded their first three game conference road swing of the season and head home for a rematch against Iona on Friday, January 15th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at McCann Arena and tickets are still available.
