The teams traded buckets until a 12-0 run by Iona during a five minute scoring drought for the Red Foxes put the Gaels up 44-35 at the end of the first half.

Marist started the new half on an 8-0 run and tied the game at 44 with just under six minutes remaining. Foul trouble for Joy Adams and Marina Lizarazua forced both player to sit as Marist entered the bonus just four minutes into the third quarter. A three from Baab extended the run to an 11-0 one as the Red Foxes took a 47-44 lead with four minutes remaining in the third.

Iona, held scoreless for the first seven minutes of the quarter, scored on consecutive possessions after starting 0-for-8 from the field and regained a 49-47 advantage. A big three from the wing by Morgan Bartner regained the lead for Marist at 50-49. Lovisa Henningsdottir then knocked down another three for Marist followed by a baseline jumper from Maura Fitzpatrick to give the Red Foxes a 55-49 lead heading into the final period. With 52.3 seconds remaining Joy Adams headed to the line and split a pair of free throws to cut the Marist lead down to just one. Another Marist turnover gave the Gaels a chance to take the lead, multiple defensive stops later and the Red Foxes emerged victorious.

“We're still a young team but we held on and survived,” said Giorgis. “A big win for us and I couldn't be prouder of the kids.”
