POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Tori Jarosz scored her 1,000th career point on Monday night, as the Red Foxes beat the Saint Peter's Peacocks 69-46 for their fifth straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win in a row. With the victory, Marist improves to 9-11 (8-2 MAAC) while the loss drops the Peacocks to 4-15 (2-8 MAAC).Â
Jarosz finished the night with her 15th double-double of the year with 18 points on 5-for-13 shooting and 8-for-9 from the free throw line, 19 rebounds (two shy of the program single game record), six blocks, and two assists.
Needing just 13 points to accomplish the career feat coming into the game, Jarosz hit her 1,000th point at 8:25 of the fourth quarter off a made free throw.Â
Senior Eileen Van Horn scored a career high eight points on 2-for-4 shooting from the field and 2-for-4 from three point land, to go along with five rebounds and one assist.Â
Senior Sydney Coffey led all scorers with 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting and 5-for-8 from the charity stripe, to go along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Senior Hala Mostafa led Saint Peter's with 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting to go along with three assists and three rebounds.
The Red Foxes shot .393 from the field, .208 from behind the arc and .741 from the free throw line. The Peacocks shot .297 from the field, .222 from behind the arc and .667 from the charity stripe. Marist outrebounded Saint Peter's 45-39, including 13-12 on the offensive glass.Â
The Peacocks started hot opening with the first seven points of the quarter before a layup from Claire Oberdorf put Marist on the board. Oberdorf's basket sparked a 10-2 run for the Red Foxes that gave them a 10-9 lead with 6:06 to play in the first. The Peacocks kept pace and ended the quarter leading Marist, 20-17. Saint Peter's finished the quarter shooting 50 percent from the field, moving the ball well, and assisting on six of their nine made baskets.
A straight away three from Kendall Baab gave the Red Foxes the lead back at 22-20 with just under six minutes to go in the second quarter. The Red Foxes held onto the lead and used a 7-2 run to close the quarter and take a 31-26 lead into halftime. Jarosz led the Red Foxes in the opening half with a near double-double, finishing the half with eight points, nine rebounds, and five blocks.
The Red Foxes used a 9-4 run to start the third, sparked by six points from Coffey to take a ten point, 50-40, lead with 3:52 left in the quarter. The Red Foxes then used another 8-0 run to force a Saint Peter's timeout with 1:54 to go in the third.
Overall Marist outscored Saint Peter's 18-7 in the third quarter and 32-13 spanning the second and third quarter's to turn a three point deficit into a 16 point lead by the final quarter.
The Red Foxes conclude their five game home stand as they host the Siena Saints, who are tied with the Marist for first place in the conference, on Thursday, January 28th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. and is the opening game of a men's and women's double header that will be broadcast on ESPN3.
