NEW ROCHELLE, New York – Hot-shooting propelled the Iona Gaels to a 69-49 win over the Marist women's basketball team, Thursday evening at the Hynes Center. With the loss Marist drops their first game in Metro Atlantic Conference play and move to 4-10 overall, 3-1 in the MAAC. Iona remains unbeaten with a perfect 5-0 record in conference and a 9-7 record overall.

Tori Jarosz led the Red Foxes with 22 points and 10 rebounds, tallying her ninth double-double of the season. The Red Foxes finished with no other scorer in double digits.

The Gaels were led by a big game from Joy Adams who tallied 17 points and 24 rebounds, also good for her ninth double-double of the season. Philecia Gilmore hurt the Red Foxes from outside, converting on 3-of-5 of her shots from three and 6-for-10 of her attempts from the field, good for 15 points.

The anticipated matchup started with both teams trading threes. The Gaels and Red Foxes combined for 7-for-11 shooting from three point range and both teams ended the quarter shooting well over 50 percent. Iona finished the hot-shooting quarter 9-for-14 (.643) and Marist didn't trail far behind, shooting 8-for-14 (.571) from the field. Iona carried the one point, 22-21, lead into the second quarter.

Iona's shooting carried over to the second quarter as the Gaels knocked down their first three shots of the quarter from downtown, including a 24 foot bank shot from junior guard Marina Lizarazu and two in a row from senior forward Joy Adams, forcing a Marist timeout with just over seven minutes left in the half.

The Red Foxes responded with a 4-0 run from Jarosz but Iona maintained their distance heading into the locker room with a 38-27 lead. Overall the Gaels outscored the Red Foxes 16-6 in the second quarter.

The Gaels started the third quarter similar to how they started the second, an 11-2 run pushed the Gales lead to 49-29 with 6:27 remaining. A three from Eileen Van Horn with just over five minutes left in the stanza stopped a 9-0 run and brought the Gaels lead back down to 17.

The Red Foxes did force a near four minute scoring drought for Iona in the middle of the quarter but were unable to capitalize as the team went on a three minute scoring drought of their own. The Gaels headed to the fourth quarter with a comfortable 52-38 lead.

Overall, Iona finished the game 28-for-58 (.483) from the field and 12-for-23 (.522) from three point land. The Red Foxes finished 16-for-50 (.320) from the field and just 4-for-17 (.235) on their attempts from deep.
