MOREHEAD, Kentucky – Red-shirt sophomore quarterback Mike White found sophomore wide receiver Juston Christian in the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown pass in overtime, giving the Marist football team a 44-41 win at Morehead State on Saturday in a Pioneer Football League game.

The victory makes the Red Foxes 3-0 in the PFL for the first time in program history, and gave the Red Foxes their third straight win.

White tied a single-game program record with his fifth touchdown pass of the day, as did Christian with his third touchdown reception of the day. White finished with 377 passing yards in addition to 36 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Christian caught six passes for 217 yards.

The Marist defense registered three interceptions and eight tackles for loss. Red-shirt sophomore linebacker Willie Barrett led the Red Foxes with 11 tackles and a forced fumble. Red-shirt freshman defensive end Peter Delatour registered three tackles for loss and a sack, while red-shirt sophomore defensive end Eric Taylor finished with seven stops, including two-and-a-half for a loss of yardage.

The game included three ties and three lead changes. The first four drives of the game went for touchdowns, which resulted in a 14-14 tie with 5:56 still left in the first quarter. The lone score of the second quarter was a 24-yard field goal by senior kicker Mike Maccarone, which gave Marist its first lead at 17-14 with 7:31 left in the second quarter. Morehead State took over at the Marist 8 with 1:50 left in the second quarter after a muffed punt, but red-shirt sophomore free safety Wesley Beans picked off a pass in the end zone to preserve the Red Foxes' three-point lead going into halftime.

Whie three two third-quarter touchdown passes – his first to junior wide receiver Lawrence Dickens, his second to Christian – to give Marist its largest lead of the game at 31-20 with 8:33 left in the third quarter. A 15-yard touchdown run by Morehead State quarterback Austin Gahafer, plus a two-point conversion, cut Marist's lead to 31-28 entering the fourth quarter.

On the second play of the fourth quarter, White found senior wide receiver Joe Jordan for a 13-yard touchdown pass, which gave Marist a 38-28 advantage. A three-yard touchdown run by Lawrence Jones cut Marist's lead back to three with exactly five minutes to play.

An interception by red-shirt sophomore safety Jordyn Jean-Felix with 1:45 to play gave Marist the ball at its own 35. However, the Red Foxes went three-and-out and ran only 15 seconds off the clock, and a 23-yard punt return by Jake Raymond set Morehead State up at the Marist 48 with 1:21 remaining. The Eagles drove to the Marist 15, and a 33-yard field goal by Matt Ward tied the game at 38 apiece with four seconds remaining.

Marist won the overtime coin toss, and elected to defend first. Morehead State did not get a first down on its drive, and Ward hit a 34-yard field goal to give the Eagles their first lead since the first quarter at 41-38.

After an ineligible man downfield penalty and a White fumble that he recovered, Marist faced a second-and-17 from the Morehead State 32. White faced pressure, rolled to his left, and found Christian past the defense in the left side of the end zone for the game-winning score.

Marist is now 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the PFL. Morehead State is 2-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Marist returns home to face Davidson as part of Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff at Tenney Stadium is set for noon. To purchase tickets, please click here.

Notes: This was Marist's first road overtime victory in program history, and first overtime win since 2007. The Red Foxes are 3-4 all-time in overtime. ... Christian's 217 receiving yards are the second-highest single-game total in program history, trailing only Michael Rios' 244-yard game against Davidson in 2012. It's the first 200-yard receiving game by a Red Fox since 2012, when Rios had 205 receiving yards in the final game of his career against San Diego. It was the seventh time in a program history a receiver has caught three touchdown passes in a game, and first since Matt Tralli against Stetson last season. ... It was just the third time in program history a Red Fox has passed for five touchdowns in a game. Chuckie Looney accomplished the feat twice in 2013. White's 377 passing yards are the sixth-highest single-game total in program history. ... Jean-Felix has now intercepted a pass in three consecutive games. ... Dating back to last season, Marist has won six straight game in October. .... The road team has won all four games in the Marist-Morehead State series.
