LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – Brianna Robinson scored the golden goal in the 103rd minute giving the Marist women's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Rider Broncs, Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
With the win the Red Foxes get back to .500 overall at 7-7-1 and now stand at 3-3-1 in MAAC action. The loss moves Rider to 8-4-3 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play.
A short kick by Rider's keeper Bethany-May Howard was pounced on by forward Kristen Reilly who headed it back towards goal, a miscommunication by the defense led to Robinson jumping on the opportunity and turning towards goal. Robinson dribbled past the keeper and then knocked it home into the back of the net to give the Red Foxes their third consecutive victory.
Robinson played a major part in the Red Foxes tying goal as well, streaking down the middle of the field before playing a through ball to freshman Keri Bradley inside the box. Bradley ripped a shot towards goal and into the back of the net, tying the game in the 74th minute.
Rider entered the second half with the lead after a cross from Ellie Smith found the foot of Michelle Iacano, who found goal with the shot in the 20th minute.
The Red Foxes ended the game with the 16-13 lead in shots and an 8-6 lead in shots on goal. Marist keeper Makala Foley finished the game with five saves, Rider's Howard finished with six saves.
Marist returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Riverdale, NY to take on the Manhattan Jaspers in MAAC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
