NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York – The Marist women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision Wednesday afternoon against the Niagara Purple Eagles in its final Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season game. The Red Foxes finish the season 9-8-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference.

Marist will play in the first round of the MAAC Championships this upcoming weekend as the fifth or sixth seed pending the final result of Canisius-Siena. With a Canisius win Marist would travel to third-seeded Rider, with a Canisius loss the Red Foxes would travel to fourth-seeded Quinnipiac.

Niagara struck fast, scoring the first goal of the game just 50 seconds into the contest. The Purple Eagles Hailey Bicknell put one home in the low corner after an assist from Eva Bachmann.

The Purple Eagles scored again in the 28th minute as Bachmann lent a helping hand again. This time Kori Thorne capitalized on the give-and-go and put Niagara up 2-0 heading into the half.

In the 56th minute Niagara scored again as Bachmann picked up a secondary assist on a pass to the game's first goal scorer, Bicknell, who then fed Morgan Genovese in front of net.

Marist was able to muster some shots and chances late in the second half but none that resulted in goals. Niagara finished the game with an 11-10 shot advantage and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Makala Foley made three saves in net for the Red Foxes while Niagara's Shangyne Samuels made six saves and earned the shutout for the Purple Eagles.

The Red Foxes await the result of Canisius-Siena to ultimately find out where they are headed for the first round of the MAAC Championships.

UPDATE:

With Canisus' 1-0 win over Siena, the Red Foxes are slotted as the #6 seed and will face #3 Rider on Saturday, Oct 29th at 7 p.m. in the first round of the MAAC Championships.
