NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York - The Marist volleyball team came from behind to defeat Niagara 3-2 (27-29, 16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-9) on Oct. 29. The victory brought the Red Foxes to 10-14 overall this season and 9-4 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.Â
Niagara won a hard fought first set that was tied 16 times.The Purple Eagles were led by junior outside hitter Nicole Matheis who had 12 kills, 12 digs and three services aces in the match. Â
Marist fell behind 5-0 early in the third set, but then came roaring back behind offensive outbursts from sophomore outside hitter
Mackenzie O'Brien and freshman outside hitter
Megan Fergus. O'Brien led the Red Foxes with 14 kills in the match. Â
Both sides traded scores in the fourth set until Marist was able to break away late to win the set, 25-20, and tie the match. O'Brien and Fergus each tallied three kills in the fourth set to continue the contest.
The Red Foxes dominated the final frame with Fergus scoring the game-winning point on a setup by senior setter
Amanda Schlegel. Schlegel put up a double-double for Marist with team highs of 42 assists and 16 digs.

Ashton Korona also made key contributions for the Red Foxes, having a hand in 13 points. She slammed nine kills and jumped for seven blocks. Senior libero
Lexi Millington dove for 15 digs. Â
The Red Foxes will play Canisius at 1 p.m. Oct. 30 in a contest broadcast on ESPN3.
