JERSEY CITY, New Jersey - The Marist volleyball team earned the no. 2 seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships for the second straight season when it defeated Saint Peter's, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19), on Nov. 12.

The Red Foxes (13-15, 12-5 MAAC) moved in front of Quinnipiac for second place in the MAAC regular season standings. Senior Lexi Millington swiped a season-high five service aces to become the second Red Fox and first since Lindsey Schmid to surpass the 200 mark for her career. Millington also dove for 13 digs to lead Marist.

Freshman Megan Fergus paced the Marist attack by hammering a match-high 12 kills and sophomore Taylor van der Biezen reached a double-double in the final set with 10 assists and 10 digs.

Marist was in front the entire match, kicking off the first frame with a 5-1 scoring spree. The Peacocks tied the score at five, but the Red Foxes scored 20 of the final 32 points of the set and took the early 1-0 edge with the help of five kills apiece from Fergus and junior Kelsey Ediger.

The second stanza was all Marist, as consecutive aces on the hot hand of freshman Nikki DeSerpa came on a run that put the Red Foxes in front 15-7. Saint Peter's got within three points to flip the deficit to 18-15, but could not overcome its attack errors on the offensive end.

In the final frame, Marist ripped off eight of the first nine points on a run highlighted by a pair of aces from Millington. A Red Foxes attack error brought Saint Peter's to within two points, but the Peacocks would not get any closer on the afternoon.

As a team, Saint Peter's jumped for 7.5 blocks to Marist's two. The Red Foxes held a wide 47-19 edge in kills and had nine service aces however.

Junior Kaitlyn Sitton was the top individual performer for the Peacocks with 12 assists and four blocks.

Marist will face off against Rider at 1 p.m. Nov. 13 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, in the 2016 regular season finale. In postseason competition, the Red Foxes will play the winner of the no. 3 vs. no. 6 seed first round match in the semifinal round of the 2016 MAAC Championships. Marist's MAAC Championship semifinal match is scheduled for 5 p.m. Nov. 19 in Fairfield, Connecticut. Tickets are available here.
