POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's basketball team fell to Seton Hall, 76-63, on Nov. 15 in its first game in McCann Arena this season. The loss brings the Red Foxes to 0-3 this season while Seton Hall moves to 2-0.
The Red Foxes started the game hot hitting five of their first seven shots and jumping out to an early lead. Sophomore guard Claire Oberdorf and freshman guard Hannah Hand both contributed early, hitting two three pointers apiece in the first quarter.
Oberdorf finished the game with nine points on 3-for-8 shooting while Hannah Hand finished with a team-high 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field.Â
Marist's offense was in a rhythm in the first half shooting 15-for-34 from the field and 6-for-19 from three-point range. The Red Foxes were also able to control the glass in the first half, pulling down 25 total rebounds. They grabbed six offensive rebounds in the first half, leading to multiple second chance opportunities for the offense. Sophomore guard Maura Fitzpatrick led the way for the Red Foxes with 11 total rebounds in the contest.Â
The Red Foxes took a 39-24 lead into halftime, but Seton Hall would come roaring back to start the second half. Seton Hall started the second half by going on a 14-0 run. Redshirt junior guard Juquan Jackson sparked the Pirates' offense in the third quarter by hitting two of their five three pointers. Jackson finished with a game-high 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting. Seton Hall outscored Marist 31-8 in the third quarter.Â
Marist turned the ball over 18 times in the second half, which contributed to the Seton Hall comeback. Seton Hall was able to score 32 points off Marist turnovers in the game.Â
Marist freshman guard Rebekah Hand contributed 11 points on 5-for-14 from the field, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists.Â
The Red Foxes will head to Holy Cross on Saturday, November 19, for their next game. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
