UNCASVILLE, Connecticut - The Marist men's basketball team earned its first win of the season on Saturday night as the Red Foxes defeated Brown 87-79 in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Four Red Foxes scored in double digits, led by red-shirt senior guard Khallid Hart with 27 points. Hart shot 9-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from three-point range. Sophomore guard Brian Parker scored 21 points while leading the Red Foxes with seven assists and two steals, and tying for the team best with four rebounds. Parker scored his 500th career point in just his 33rd career game in the first half.

Sophomore swingman Kristinn Palsson scored a season-high 14 points off the bench, going 3-for-6 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Sophomore forward Ryan Funk added 10 points and tied Parker for the team high with four rebounds.

The Red Foxes shot .547 (29-for-53) from the field and .481 (13-for-27) from three-point range. They had 18 assists against just 12 turnovers.

With 16:48 left to play in the first half, a three-pointer by Hart gave Marist a 7-4 lead, and the Red Foxes did not relinquish the advantage the rest of the game. Another three-pointer by Hart at the 11:10 mark capped an 18-5 run, and gave Marist its largest lead of the first 20 minutes at 22-9. Brown immediately responded with an 11-0 run to cut its deficit to two. The Bears cut Marist's lead to one on three separate occasions in the first half, but were never able to tie the game. The Red Foxes took a 40-37 lead to the locker room.

Brown's Steven Spieth converted a layup on the first possession of the second half to bring the Bears within one, but Hart answered with a three-pointer at the 18:26 mark to boost Marist's lead to four. With 13:48 to play, a Palsson three-pointer gave Marist a 48-41 lead, and the Red Foxes led by at least three possessions the rest of the way. Marist's largest lead was 17, and the Red Foxes shot .577 (15-for-26) from the field in the second half.

Spieth led Brown with 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. The Bears shot .540 (27-for-50) form the field, but the Red Foxes induced 16 turnovers.

Marist and Brown are both 1-3 on the season.

Marist closes out play in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday night, when the Red Foxes take on Grand Canyon. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the contest will be carried live on ESPN3.
