RIVERDALE, New York – Behind 25 points from Rebekah Hand, the Marist women's basketball team defeated the Manhattan Jaspers, 62-47, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. With the win the Red Foxes earned their first MAAC win of the year and improved to 2-6 overall. Manhattan moves to 3-3 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.
Rebekah Hand finished the game shooting 9-for-18 from the field and 4-for-10 from deep, adding seven rebounds and two assists. Hannah Hand scored 12 for the Red Foxes along with seven rebounds and four assists. Maura Fitzpatrick was the third Red Fox in double-digits, scoring 13 points while also grabbing seven rebounds.
Both teams started the game hot from downtown, combining to shoot 5-for-8 from three range in the first quarter. Rebekah Hand picked up where she had left off in the last game and led the way for the Red Foxes in the first stanza with eight points.
Rebekah Hand carried the momentum into the second quarter, scoring the first eight points for the Red Foxes, helping to open up a 25-15 lead. Hand ended the second quarter with 13 more points to up her game total to 21 as the Red Foxes carried a 12 point 36-24 lead into halftime.
Back-to-back triples by Hannah Hand got the three ball party started in the second half for Marist. The two threes gave the Red Foxes their largest lead of the game to that point at 15 just three minutes into the third quarter.
Marist poured in five threes in total that quarter to bring its game total up to 11. The Red Foxes carried a 54-37 lead into the final quarter after seven points from Hannah Hand and six from Maura Fitzpatrick in the third.
Up next the Red Foxes head home for just the second time this season as they host Saint Peter's in their second MAAC game on Sunday, December 4th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. in McCann Arena.
