POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's basketball team was defeated by first-place Monmouth by a score of 87-61 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Tuesday night at McCann Arena.

Red-shirt junior Khallid Hart led the Red Foxes with 22 points to go along with three assists and two steals. Hart scored Marist's first 12 points, and 15 of the Red Foxes' first 17. Freshman Brian Parker finished the night with 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe. Junior center Kentrall Brooks had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Red-shirt freshman Micah Seaborn and junior Justin Robinson led Monmouth with 16 points apiece. Five Hawks scored in double digits, as they were joined by Je'lon Hornbeak, Chris Brady and Collin Stewart with 14, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Brady led the Hawks with nine rebounds, and Robinson had a game-high five assists.

Monmouth led for 38:44 of the game. After five consecutive points by Hart gave the Red Foxes a 5-3 lead 2:10 into the game, the Hawks reeled off an 8-0 run and took the lead for good. Monmouth led by 15 on two occasions in the first half. A 9-2 Marist run, punctuated by two free throws from Brooks, cut Marist's deficit to 39-31 with 2:52 left in the half. But the Hawks scored the final six points of the half to lead 45-31 after the first 20 minutes.

Seaborn opened the second-half scoring with a jumper in transition, and Marist was never closer than 16 points the rest of the way. Monmouth's largest lead was 32, and the Hawks led by at least 20 for the final 14:12.

Monmouth outrebounded Marist, 44-33. The Red Foxes shot .333 from the field, .269 from three and .778 from the free throw line while the Hawks shot .508 from the floor, .407 from behind the arc and .700 from the charity stripe. Monmouth's bench outscored the Marist bench, 35-20.

The loss drops Marist to 5-18 (2-12 MAAC) while the win lifts Monmouth to 20-5 (12-2 MAAC).

Notes: Brooks' 12 rebounds tied a career high. He has averaged 8.2 rebounds per game in his five starts this season. … Hart topped 20 points for the 14th time this season and 24th time in his career. He now has 1,230 career points, and stands in 14th place in scoring in program history. … Parker is 14-for-20 (.700) from the field in his last two games.
