HAMDEN, Connecticut - The Marist women's basketball team fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 76-71, Thursday evening in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the TD Bank Sports Center. With the loss the Red Foxes move to 13-14 overall and 12-5 in conference play. With the win Quinnipiac extends their winning streak to 13 games and improves to 18-7 overall and 13-3 in conference.

The Red Foxes finished the game with four players in double figures for just the second time this season. Tori Jarosz had a game high 24 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists. Sydney Coffey scored 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting and Allie Clement went 4-for-8 from three point range with two assists.

Maura Fitzpatrick, playing in front of a strong contingent of home town support, was the Red Foxes fourth scorer in double-digits. Fitzpatrick scored 14 points, one shy of tying her career high, and pulled down seven rebounds.

Overall Marist shot 25-for-52 (.481) from the field, 8-for-16 (.500) from three, and 13-for-15 (.867) from the foul stripe. The strong shooting numbers and the 36-26 overall rebounding advantage were offset by 22 turnovers to just 12 for Quinnipiac.

A hot 4-for-5 start from deep for Quinnipiac put them ahead early in the first quarter. The Red Foxes stormed back with an 8-0 run sparked by two threes from Coffey to knot the score at 12-12 before the first media timeout hit. A three from Morgan Bartner with just over a minute to go in the quarter gave Marist their first lead of the game and 17-16 advantage after the opening quarter.

The teams traded punches in the second quarter on both sides of the ball. Jarosz ended the half leading Marist with 13 points and seven rebounds. Coffey who started hot from the field finished the half with 11 points and three assists. Both teams combined to shoot 10-for-21 from three point range while dishing out 10 assists each.

With 7:01 to go in the third quarter and Marist leading 40-36, jumpers from Coffey, two threes in a row from Clement and a jumper from Jarosz sparked a 10-4 run for the Red Foxes. The run gave Marist a 50-40 lead with just over four to go in the quarter. Quinnipiac bounced back however and used an 11-2 run to cut a 10 point Marist lead down to just one by the end of the third quarter.

A fourth quarter three from Quinnipiac's Morgan Manz with just over eight to go regained the lead for the Bobcats. A third consecutive Marist turnover in the quarter then turned into a layup for Quinnipiac and forced a Marist timeout with seven minutes to go and the Red Foxes down 59-54. Quinnipiac had used a 19-4 run spanning the end of the third and fourth quarter to turn a 10 point deficit into a five point lead. The Bobcats wouldn't trail again, answering every Marist push along the way with tough defense and responding baskets.

The Red Foxes head home for the first time in three games to host Fairfield in their annual Pink game on Sunday, February 21st. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
