BUFFALO, New York – The Marist men's basketball team suffered an 81-66 loss at Canisius in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at the Koessler Center on Saturday.

For the second straight game, freshman swingman David Knudsen led Marist in scoring, this time with 16 points. Knudsen shot 6-for-9 from the field, 4-for-5 from three-point range, and tied for the team high with four assists. Freshman forward Ryan Funk had 15 points, and tied for the team high with six rebounds. Freshman swingman Kristinn Palsson added 13.

Canisius' Phil Valenti had game highs in points (20) and rebounds (eight). Kassius Robertson scored 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Malcolm McMillian contributed 15 points and seven assists against zero turnovers.

Canisius jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first six minutes, but the Red Foxes gradually fought back. An 11-2 run, which included three-pointers from sophomore guard K.J. Lee, Palsson and Knudsen, brought the Red Foxes to within one. With 5:36 left in the first half, Knudsen's three-pointer gave Marist its first lead at 24-21. The lead changed five times over the final five minutes of the half, but a three-pointer by Knudsen with 17 seconds remaining tied the score at 36, and it remained knotted going into halftime.

Freshman forward Isaiah Lamb scored the first four points of the second half to give Marist a 40-36 advantage. However, Canisius added with a 9-0 run to take the lead for good. The Golden Griffins then expanded their lead with an 8-0 run minutes later. Canisius led by double digits for the final 11:38.

Marist is now 5-22 overall and 2-16 in the MAAC. Canisius is 12-17 overall and 7-11 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 when they host Rider on Military Appreciation Night. Tickets are available on GoRedFoxes.com.

Notes: Marist's freshman class combined for 57 of the Red Foxes' 66 points. … In his first game back after missing two games due to a right knee injury, red-shirt junior guard Khallid Hart had two points, four assists and four rebounds in 27 minutes. Both the point and minute totals were season lows. … In his first game back after missing Marist's previous game due to illness, freshman guard Brian Parker had five points, four rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes. Parker's point and minute totals were season lows. … Marist shot 8-for-21 (.381) from three-point range in the first half, and 2-for-8 (.250) from deep in the second half.
