PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The Marist women's tennis team dropped a close match to the Providence Friars, 4-3, Friday afternoon in Providence, Rhode Island.
With the win Providence earned their second victory of the spring season as they took the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches to secure the win. The loss moves the Red Foxes to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
After taking the first doubles match, Karlene Pang and Chloe Lant teamed up to knot the doubles score at 1-1 with a 6-3 win over Providence's Emma Burgess and Alana Prinos. Providence responded by winning the third and decisive doubles match to earn the doubles point and head into singles play one up.
Lant kept up her hot play and went 2-0 on the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nicole Cyterski to bring the match back to even. Claire Schmitz and Caroline Lozo each won singles matches for Marist but it was preceded by Providence reeling off three match victories in a row to clinch the win.
The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, February 20th as they travel to take on Harvard.
