WEST POINT, New York – The Marist women's tennis team were defetated by the Fordham Rams in a non-conference dual match Sunday afternoon. Three of the six singles matches ended in the third set with two matches ending in super tiebreakers.
Fordham took the first match in doubles from the second position as Caroline Lozo and Claire Schmitz fell to their Fordham opposition, 6-0. The Red Foxes bounced back as Ariel Shulman and Sophia Moeller won from the third doubles position, 6-3.
Fordham was able to edge out Marist for the doubles point as the Ram's Hannah Drayton and Mayu Sato defeated the Red Foxes number one pairing, Karlene Pang and Chloe Lant, 6-4.
The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead with singles victories at the number five and number one positions and then secured the match victory with a win at the fourth singles position after Fordham's Alexis Zobeideh defeated Shulman, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).
Lant was able to win another singles match for Marist at the third singles spot, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-5. Elizabeth Brozovich earned one more point for Marist in a shortened match from the sixth position and Lozo won her match with a 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 super tiebreaker victory over Sato to pull the overall match score back to 4-3.
The Red Foxes return to action for one match next weekend against Lafayette in Easton, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 5th.
