ALBANY, New York – The Red Foxes ended the 2015-16 season on Thursday night with a 81-63 loss to #6 Manhattan College in the opening round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament at the Times Union Center.
Junior Khallid Hart led Marist with 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the floor and 3-for-6 from three point range. Freshman Isaiah Lamb chipped in 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field.
Senior Shane Richards led Manhattan with 27 points on 11-for-15 shooting from the floor and 5-for-5 from deep. Two other Jaspers scored in double figures.
The Red Foxes started cold, hitting on just 2-for-10 of their attempts in the first eight minutes of action as Manhattan jumped out to a 20-7 lead before the second media timeout.
A three from Funk with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half snapped a 17-2 run for Manhattan. On the ensuing possession Hart knocked down another three for Marist to cut the deficit down to 19.
A free throw parade from freshman guard Brian Parker, Hart, and Lamb put Marist on an 8-0 run with two minutes remaining again cutting into the Jaspers big first half lead.
Manhattan stayed hot however, finishing the half shooting over 70 percent as the Jaspers hit 19 of their 27 shots from the field and went 6-for-7 from deep. Richards after going 9-for-30 combined in regular season play against Marist finished the half with 20 points as he went 8-for-8 from the field before missing his first shot and finishing 8-for-9.
The Jaspers kept the Red Foxes at bay throughout the first 10 minutes of the second half, as Marist cut the lead down to less than 20 on two separate occasions but could never get it lower than 15. Manhattan undeterred used a 6-0 run to push their lead to 26 points, their largest lead of the game up to that point, by the 8:41 minute mark.
The Marist men's basketball team finished the season with an overall record of 7-23. This was the final game for the 2016 senior class of Eric Truog and Phillip Lawrence-Ricks.
