Baseball Undefeated at Home with 2-0 Win vs Albany

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Red Foxes remain undefeated at home (5-0) with a 2-0 non-conference win over the University of Albany Great Danes on Wednesday. With the win, Marist improves to 12-12 (4-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) while the loss drops Albany to 8-18 (1-5 America East).

Tyler Kirkpatrick led the Red Foxes, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI while Andrew Rouse chipped in a 2-for-4 effort with a double and one run scored and Zachary Racusin went 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Co-captains Graham McIntire and Joey Aiola and Anthony Lazar all had one hit in the victory. Marist totaled 10 hits in the game.

Tony Romanelli got the start and picked up his second win of the year, throwing four and two thirds innings, while giving up no runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Tyler Poulin threw one third of an inning and gave up no runs and no hits with one strikeout, Kevin Stewart pitched two and one third innings, giving up one hit, Mike Coss threw two thirds of an inning and gave up no runs and no hits and Ryan Thomas picked up his ninth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

Joey Tracy led the Great Danes, going 1-for-3 on the afternoon, while Albany totaled four hits on the loss.

The Red Foxes got their only two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Rouse doubled to lead off and two batters later, Kirkpatrick connected on a 2-0 pitch and launched it over the scoreboard in right center field for the 2-0 lead and his first home run of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh, McIntire singled off the pitcher's leg with one out and two batters later Kirkpatrick singled to center. Following a pop out to the second baseman, Racusin singled on a bunt down the third base line and the bases were loaded with two outs. The inning ended however, without any runs,when the next batter struck out swinging.

With the two run lead heading into the top of the ninth, Thomas came on and got the first batter to fly out to left field, the second to ground out to the pitcher and the third batter to ground out to the third baseman for his ninth save and the 2-0 Red Fox victory.

Up next for Marist is a three game MAAC series at Niagara. The Red Foxes will play a double header on Saturday with first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 12 PM. Game 2 will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game and Marist will then wrap up the series with one game on Sunday at 12 PM.
