POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's tennis team made quick work of the Fairfield Stags, winning 7-0 Friday afternoon in cold and windy conditions at the Marist Tennis Pavilion. With the victory the Red Foxes improve to 6-10 overall and remain perfect in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action with a 5-0 record.
Caroline Lozo and Ariel Shulman teamed up to win the first match of the day for Marist, defeating the Stags' Karen McKeough and Courtney Connors, 6-1. Lisa Ventimiglia and Melissa Carlay followed with a 6-3 win over Gabriella Campos and Ceilla Parla to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 overall match lead.
Karlene Pang and Chloe Lant rounded out doubles play with a 6-3 win over Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann.
After leading off for Marist in doubles play, Lozo earned the first match win in singles play for the Red Foxes, defeating McKeough again, 6-1, 6-1. In the next match to finish play, Claire Schmitz took down Parla from the fifth singles postion, 6-0, 6-0.
In the match clincher, Lant, riding her hot play in doubles, defeated Fairfield's Campos in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Elizabeth Brozovich, Pang, and Shulman all finished their singles matches with straight set victories after the match clincher.
Up next the Red Foxes celebrate senior night on Saturday, April 9th. The match has been moved indoors to the Cross Court Tennis Facilities in Poughkeepsie, New York. Warm-ups are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. with the senior night ceremonies starting at 8 p.m.
