The Marist Athletics Department Thanks Dr. Murray

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - June 30, 2016, marks the final day in office for President Dennis J. Murray. After 37 years, Dr. Murray will transition to his new role as President Emeritus. His legacy of success can be seen throughout the Athletics Department and across the College.

Since becoming president in 1979, Marist has seen significant growth under Dr. Murray's leadership:

  • Athletic teams moved from the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division II to Division I status
  • Nine new Division I teams were added
  • Enrollments have grown from 1,842 to 6,365, a 245 percent growth
  • Applications have increased seven-fold and selectivity has risen, with only 38.5 percent of 9,571 applicants accepted in 2014
  • The Town of Poughkeepsie campus has expanded from 93 acres to 224 acres
  •  There have been 56 new buildings and 24 major renovations.
  • Jobs rose from 350 to 1,324
  • Marist has had balanced budgets for 37 years and increased total assets from $22 million to $576 million.

Two of the most recent and prominent examples of his legacy were unveiled at a special tribute held last month in honor of President and Mrs. Murray. Click below to watch the tribute video and learn more:
