Georgetown got on the scoreboard first, as a 28-yard field goal by Henry Darmstadter capped an 11-play drive with 6:26 left in the first quarter. Marist took the lead on its ensuing drive. On a second-and-14 from midfield, White threw a long pass to sophomore wide receiver Juston Christian down the middle of the field. Christian batted the ball to himself inside the 10, and went in for his first touchdown of the season. A 37-yard field goal by senior Mike Maccarone gave Marist a 10-3 lead after the first period. Darmstadter's 25-yard field goal with 1:29 left before the half cut the Red Foxes' advantage to 10-6, a lead they took into the locker room.

The Hoyas re-claimed the lead on a 15-yard touchdown run by Christian Bermudez with 5:37 left in the third quarter, which came on a fourth-and-two. Marist took back the advantage just three plays into the ensuing drive, as White connected with red-shirt freshman wide receiver Jon Kanda on a 29-yard scoring strike. It was Kanda's first career reception.

Georgetown then took the lead back 12:03 to play. On a fourth-and-goal from the Marist 3, quarterback Tim Barnes rolled right and completed a touchdown pass to Justin Harrell. The Red Foxes reached the Georgetown 30 two drives later, but Hunter Kiselick blocked a 48-yard field goal attempt by Maccarone.
