POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Stony Brook Seawolves handed the Marist men's soccer team its' second straight home defeat by a final score of 2-0 on Wednesday night at Tenney Stadium. With the loss, the Red Foxes drop to 4-2-1, while the Seawolves improve to 5-2-1 with the win.

Two goals by Vince Erdei, one with 0:44 seconds left in the first half and the second with 13 minutes left in the second half proves to be the difference.

"The effort was there, I don't think the execution was" said head coach Matt Viggiano. "I talked them about we're going to play certain styles of teams that are going to try and frustrate us and make us play the tough style with set peices and counters. I think they definitely sat in on us tonight and tried to make us break them down and we struggled to do that. Our movemet has to be sharper and our focus has to be sharper and I think we just showed a little immaturity tonight. For the first time this year we showed we only start one senior. We have to come together as a group and learn from these things. It's better we learn them now than in the conference and we just have to move on and get ready for this Saturday and then Quinnipiac in a week."

Marist held a 16-12 advantage in shots while the two teams were even with three shots on goal each and Stony Brook held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The beginning of the first half saw a lot of back-and-forth action from both teams as the Seawolves sat back on defense and looked to move forward on the counter attack.

With just under one minute remaining in the half, Stony Brook collected the ball in the defensive zone and Gamwanya played a long ball over the half line to Erdei who carried the ball into the box and ripped a shot through the legs of the Marist defender and into the lower left corner for the 1-0 lead.

The Red Foxes came out of the half energized and maintained the majority of the possession but were just unable to find the final ball to break down the Seawolves' defense.

With 13 minutes remaining, another Stony Brook counter attack found Gamwanya in space down the left side to the end line where his cross found a wide open Erdei at the penalty spot who easily knocked it into the left side for the 2-0 lead.

Marist generated several almost chances in the final minutes but couldn't find the back of the net and the final horn sounded with the Seawolves victorious 2-0.

Up next, the Red Foxes travel to Olean, NY for their final non-conference game against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Saturday at 5 PM.
