POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -Â The Marist women's basketball team suffered a 69-56 home loss to Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Thursday night at McCann Arena.
The Red Foxes had four double-digit scorers, paced by sophomore Claire Oberdorf with 16 points. Sophomore Maura Fitzpatrick contributed 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Sophomore Lovisa Henningsdottir finished with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman Hannah Hand totaled 10 points, seven rebounds (six on the offensive end), a team-high three assists, and three steals.
Rider's Robin Perkins paced all scorers with 17 points. Julia Duggan added 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Marist scored the game's first five points on a layup by freshman Rebekah Hand, and a three-pointer by Hannah Hand. The Broncs took their first lead at the 5:17 mark of the period, which included three lead changes and two ties. Rider led 21-19 after the first 10 minutes.
With 3:46 left in the second quarter, a three by Henningsdottir tied the score at 30 apiece. But Marist did not score the rest of the period, and Rider took a 35-30 halftime lead.
The Broncs led for the entire second half. In the third quarter, Marist cut its deficit to one on three separate occasions, but was unable to tie or take the lead. Rider scored the final six points of the quarter to go ahead 53-46 after three.
A basket with Fitzpatrick with 9:21 left cut Marist's deficit to 56-48, but the Red Foxes drew no closer. Rider's lead reached a high of 15 with 2:53 left.
Rider shot 27-for-62 (.435) from the field, while Marist shot 19-for-63 (.302). The Broncs also hit 10 three-pointers in 27 attempts (.370), but the Red Foxes went 14-for-17 (.824) from the free-throw line.
Marist is now 7-10 overall and 4-3 in the MAAC; Rider is 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the MAAC.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Sunday, when they travel to Iona. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the contest will be carried on ESPN3 through Iona's production.
