BUFFALO, New York – The Marist men's basketball team was defeated at Canisius by a score of 91-58 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game on Saturday at the Koessler Athletic Center.

"We need to be more mature than that, and mentally tougher when things don't go our way," head coach Mike Maker said. "As the head coach, I take full responsibility."

Red-shirt senior guard Khallid Hart finished with a team-high 15 points. Hart moved into fourth place in program history in career scoring, and now has 1,604 career points. Sophomore guard Brian Parker added 11 points. Freshman center Tobias Sjoberg paced the Red Foxes with a career-high seven rebounds.

Canisius' Kassius Robertson led all scorers with 30 points. Robertson shot 9-for-10 from three-point range and had six assists against zero turnovers. As a team, the Golden Griffins had 22 assists and just seven turnovers.

Both teams got off to a hot start, and a basket by Sjoberg gave Marist its largest lead of six at 13-7 four minutes into the game. The Golden Griffins grabbed the lead back thanks to a 13-2 run. The first half included a total of seven lead changes. Although the Red Foxes did not convert a field goal in the final 7:44 of the first half, Marist held Canisius to just two points in the final four minutes of the half, and the Golden Griffins' lead was 38-33 after the first 20 minutes.

The Red Foxes scored the first five points of the second half, and tied the score three times in the first four minutes of the second half – at 38, 40, and 43. The Golden Griffins' lead expanded to 10 when Hart converted a layup with 8:53 remaining. From there, Marist went scoreless for the next 7:18 while Canisius broke the game open with a 26-0 run. Robertson scored 12 points in this time, which included a four-point play.

Marist is 5-13 overall and 2-5 in the MAAC. Canisius is now 12-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.

The Red Foxes will return to action on Monday, January 16, when they wrap up their western New York trip with a game at Niagara. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be televised throughout the state on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel (Channel 323).
