Monmouth got on the board first just over eight minutes into the game when a Hawk's shot from the right side outside the box deflected off a Red Fox defender and looped into the far left corner for the 1-0 lead. Sophomore David Nkansah-Siriboe collected the ball in the box, beat the defender twice and the buried it into the far right corner to even the score at 1-1. Roughly six minutes later, the Red Foxes took the lead when junior Juan Parada fed a pass to freshman Allen Gavilanes at the top of the box who ripped a shot toward the bottom left corner that glanced off the Hawk goalie's fingertips and into the side netting for the 2-1 advantage.

Marist carried the momentum of the first half into the second and had several chances to extend their lead but couldn't find the back of the net. With a little over 10 minutes left in the game, a Red Fox foul gave Monmouth a free kick about 20 yards outside the box. A service in founded a Hawk head around the six yard box and redirected the ball up and into the top netting to tie the game 2-2. Both teams looked for the game winner as time wound down but the game stayed tied and went to overtime.

Roughly five minutes into the first overtime period, senior co-captain Kevin Kappock fed a cross from the right that found Samad Bounthong all alone on the left edge of the box but his half volley was just wide. QUOTE:

"It was a much needed win. We've faced a lot of adversity this year and tonight ran the whole gamut of that. We played well in the first half despite giving up an own goal eight minutes in which kind of put us behind the 8 ball but we had a much deserved lead at the half. Unfortunately we had some miscommunication on the tying goal but I asked the guys to dig deep and find a way in overtime and they did. I'm proud of them for that and hopefully we can use that as a spring board for the rest of the season." – head coach Matt Viggiano.

UP NEXT:

The Red Foxes now have a week off from competition with their MAAC bye on Saturday. Marist will then head north to Lewiston, NY for a match at the Niagara Purples Eagles on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m.
