LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey – The Marist men's soccer team hits the road for the final time during the 2017 regular season, as the Red Foxes head to Lawrenceville, NJ for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup vs the Rider Broncs on Saturday (7 p.m.)
LAST TIME OUT:
Marist (7-9-0, 3-5-0 MAAC) is coming off a 4-2 loss to the Canisius Golden Griffins at Tenney Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Neither team found the back of the net in the first half but the Golden Griffins opened the scoring in the 60
th minute when two quick passes found a Canisius player behind the Red Fox defense for a breakaway that he put away for the 1-0 lead. The Golden Griffins then added three more goals in the next 17 minutes to take a 4-0 lead.

Ernest Mitchell who put it into the back of the goal for the 1-0 and his first career goal. Just over two minutes later, the Red Foxes made it 4-2 when Gavilanes crossed the ball from the left wing into the box and found a streaking juniorÂ
Abby Elsayed who headed the ball into the net for his first career goal. However, that was as close as Marist would come and the final horn sounded on the 4-2 defeat.
MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Gavilanes was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer Rookie of the Week the conference announced on Monday.
The award marks the first accolade of Gavilanes' career.
In two games last week, he finished with three goals and one assist to go along with seven shots and six shots on goal. In the Red Foxes' 3-1 win at Niagara on Wednesday, Oct. 18
th, Gavilanes scored the team's third goal when he collected the ball inside the box on the left side and rocketed a shot inside the near post. At Quinnipiac last Saturday, he tied the game at 1-1 when he banged home the rebound off a shot that hit the post and then gave Marist the lead in the 73
rd minute with a gorgeous right footed chip into the top left corner after collecting a Red Fox corner on the right side of the box.
FIRST YEAR AND HE'S LEADING THE TEAM:
Gavilanes leads the team with eight goals, nine assists, 25 points, 50 shots and 23 shots on goal. He is currently riding a four game point streak and has at least one point in 11 of 16 games played and multiple points in 8 of 16 games this season.
SCOUTING THE BRONCS:
Rider enters the match at 11-3-1 (6-1-1 MAAC) and are coming off a 2-1 win at the Iona Gaels on Wednesday.
Senior Elliott Otmani leads the team with eight goals, 17 points, 41 shots and 21 shots on goal.
Senior David Pastuna has played the majority of the season in net for the Broncs with 1429:33 minutes played and has 15 goals against to go along with 51 saves, a 0.94 goals against average and a .773 save percentage.
