POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Fifth ranked Marist women's soccer heads to Lake Buena Vista, Florida and battles the fourth ranked Siena Saints in the Quarterfinal round of the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship.
The match will be played on Sunday, October 29
th on Field 18 and is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The team has not beaten Siena in over five years, as the last time the Red Foxes defeated the Saints was on October 6
th, 2012, when Marist came out on top 2-1 in Poughkeepsie.
PREVIOUS OUTING AGAINST SIENA
In its previous outing against the Saints, Marist suffered a 2-1 double OT road loss in early October. The Red Foxes carried a one goal lead into the half after an
Alexa Svensson corner deflected off a Saints defender and went into the net in the 4
th minute. However, Siena would score just three minutes into the second half, knotting the game at one. The match would go into double OT, but would conclude in the 107
th minute as Siena midfielder Darby D'Angelo netted the game winning goal, putting the Saints on top.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Forward
Brianna Robinson has provided the scoring for Marist this season, as the senior is currently tied with freshman
Jillian Colucci for the team lead in goals with four. Svensson will also be crucial if the Red Foxes are to get past Siena, as the midfielder leads the team with six assists, which is currently tied for sixth in the MAAC.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
The Saints have won six of their last seven games heading into the match against Marist. Last time out on the pitch, Siena defeated Rider 1-0 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Forward/midfielder Gabby Albano is currently tied for second in the MAAC with eight goals and is averaging 0.47 goals per game, which is fourth best in the MAAC.
