POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's soccer team returns home and continues Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play as they host the Fairfield Stags at Tenney Stadium on Wednesday (7 p.m.)
The Red Foxes currently stand at 5-5 (1-1 MAAC).
LAST TIME OUT:
Marist is coming off a 5-0 loss at the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday afternoon. The Jaspers got on the board first just 22 minutes into the game when a loose ball in the box found a Manhattan player whose shot found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Just over a minute into the second half, the Jaspers doubled their lead on a transition goal and less than 20 minutes after that, Manhattan again found the back of the net for the 3-0. With just over 10 minutes left in regulation, the Jaspers scored for a fourth time and then added a fifth with a few minutes left in the game to secure the 5-0 win.
GOOD THINGS COME IN 3:
In three games at Tenney Stadium this year the Red Foxes are 3-0 with three goals scored in each match.
ENJOYING THAT HOME COOKIN':
Marist has averaged 19.7 shots per game and nine shots on goal per game in its three home games, compared to an average of 12.9 shots per game and 6.3 shots on goal in seven away matches this season.Â
FIRST YEAR SUCCESS:
Freshman
Allen Gavilanes currently leads the team with four goals, six assists, 13 points, 28 shots and 13 shots on goal.
He is ranked first in the MAAC in shots, tied for first in the conference in assists, second in the MAAC in points (14) and seventh in the conference in goals.
Gavilanes is also amongst the NCAA leaders, ranked 40
th in the country in points and tied for 9
th in the NCAA in assists.

LAST YEAR VS FAIRFIELD:
Last season, the Red Foxes lost to the Stags 3-1 on the road on Oct. 8
th. Fairfield struck first in the 14
th minute before
Alex Cancilla tied it up for Marist with his first career goal 16 minutes later. The game didn't stay tied for long as the Stags scored the eventual game winner with four minutes left in the first half. The Red Foxes had numerous corner kicks in the second half, searching for the tying goal but Fairfield scored with less than 10 minutes remaining to seal the 3-1 win.
SCOUTING THE STAGS:
The Stags stand at 5-4 (1-1 MAAC) and are coming off a 3-2 (2OT) loss vs the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday.
Freshman Don-Junior Bobe leads the team with five goals and 10 points and is second with 10 shots and six shots on goal.
Senior Ben Wignall is first on the team with 17 shots and 10 shots on goal and is tied for first with three assists.
Freshman Gordon Botterill and senior Jack Robinson have split time in goal, playing 515:25 and 329:29 minutes respectively. Botterill has allowed 10 goals against to go along with 25 saves, a 1.75 goals against average and a .714 save percentage. Robinson has allowed seven goals against to go along with 11 saves, a 1.81 goals against average and a .611 save percentage.
