JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – The Marist volleyball team continued its streak of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference shutouts, blanking Saint Peter's 3-0 on Oct. 7. Set scores were 25-16, 25-16, 25-23.
Saint Peter's dropped to 0-18 overall and 0-7 in the MAAC. Marist improved to 8-10 overall and 5-2 in MAAC play with five straight set wins in conference play.
Turning Points:
Marist did not trail at all in the first two frames of the match. Kills from three different hitters put the Red Foxes ahead 9-2 in the opening set. Saint Peter's got within one, but service aces from senior
Sydney Rojek and sophomore
Nikki DeSerpa kept the ball on the Red Foxes' side of the net. A swipe from freshman
Sarah Austin sealed the 1-0 match lead for Marist.
Six of the first eight points in the second stanza went Marist's way and the Red Foxes ripped off four straight points to go ahead 11-5. Both sides traded runs, but it was the Red Foxes who built a 10-point cushion on their scoring spree with the help of a pair of aces from junior
Taylor van der Biezen and two kills from sophomore
Megan Fergus.
The Peacocks' strongest effort came in the final set, as they scored four straight points to begin the period. Marist crept closer and closer until three straight unforced Saint Peter's errors gave the Red Foxes a 16-15 edge. Facing match point, Saint Peter's had another 4-0 run but committed a service error to conclude the match.
Inside the Numbers:
-Marist hit .320 and the attack slammed 14 kills in the first set.
-van der Biezen had 24 assists, three service aces and five digs.

Kelsey Ediger led Marist with nine kills and dove for five digs.
-The Red Foxes held a 34-22 edge in assists and led 44-35 in digs.
-Saint Peter's sophomore Danielle Lopez ended up with team highs of six kills and three blocks.

The Red Foxes will take on Rider at 1 p.m. Oct. 8 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The match will be Marist's final road contest in October.
