NEW ROCHELLE, New York – The Marist volleyball team wraps up the 2017 regular season with matches at the Iona Gaels on Saturday (1 PM) and the Manhattan Jaspers on Sunday (1 PM).
LAST TIME OUT:
The Red Foxes finished up play at McCann Arena last weekend with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 31-29) win over the Canisius Golden Griffins, before dropping their Senior Day match 3-1 (16-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-25) to the Niagara Purple Eagles.
POSTSEASON SEEDING SCENARIO:
With the win vs Canisius last Saturday, Marist clinched a berth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship for the fifth straight season. The Red Foxes will finish as the #3, #4 or #5 seed depending on their own results and the results of Iona and Canisius this weekend.
CAREER MILESTONE:
Senior
Kelsey Ediger is nearing the 1,000 career kill and 1,000 career dig mark. She currently has 987 kills (7
th in program history) and 916 digs (7
th in program history). If she were to achieve the 1,000 in each category, she would become just the second player in program history to have 1,000 career digs and kills in their career (Joanna Foss).
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Sophomore
Nikki DeSerpa is third in the MAAC with 3.20 kills per set and 3.65 points per set. Junior Taylor Van Der Biezen is fourth in the MAAC with 8.99 assists per set and sixth with 0.39 service aces per set. Junior
Katie Brierley is seventh in the MAAC with 3.28 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE GAELS:
Iona is currently in fourth place in the MAAC at 12-17 (9-7 MAAC).
Junior Claire Archibald is first in the MAAC with 4.33 points per set and is second with 3.71 kills per set and 0.46 service aces per set, junior Emma Rose is sixth in the MAAC with 8.06 assists per set and junior Mia Bonsignore is currently 10
th in the MAAC with a .232 hitting percentage.
SCOUTING THE JASPERS:
Manhattan is currently in 10
th place in the MAAC at 2-27 (2-14 MAAC).
Junior Alyssa Rehrer is second in the MAAC with 4.77 digs per set, freshman Erin Hoener is fourth in the MAAC with a .290 hitting percentage, junior Zoe Lindsey is eighth in the MAAC with 6.22 assists per set and junior Sandra Lazanova is eight in the MAAC with 0.35 service aces per set.
