HONOLULU, Hawaii – Despite a career-high 22 points from
Alana Gilmer and a late six point lead, the Red Foxes would drop their first game to host Hawaii at the Rainbow Wahine Showdown Friday night. The Red Foxes fall to 1-3 overall, while Hawaii moves to 4-1 on the season.
SUMMARY
The Red Foxes started the game on an 8-0 run but Hawaii would storm back to take a 16-14 lead after the first quarter. Marist would snatch back the lead in the second quarter after six straight points from
Alana Gilmer put Marist up 22-18 around the seven minute mark. Hawaii would again regain the lead and head to halftime up by two, 31-29.
After a back and forth third quarter in which both teams would hold the lead, a coast-to-coast layup from
Allie Clement would send the Red Foxes into the fourth quarter with a one-point lead. Marist would use a 6-0 scoring run in the middle of the fourth quarter to take a 57-51 lead. The Red Foxes would go cold from there, failing to score for the next four minutes as Hawaii rattled off a 12-0 run to take a 63-57 lead, one they wouldn't relinquish.

- Red Foxes outrebounded Hawaii on the offensive glass, 5-1, in the first half resulting in a 9-0 advantage in second-chance points. The Red Foxes would outscore Hawaii 24-5 in second chance points by games' end.
- Marist held the overall advantage in total rebounds (40-33), offensive rebounds (17-7), and points in the paint (32-26).
- Marist would wind up in the bonus with over five minutes to go in the third quarter and convert on 7-for-8 free throw attempts that quarter.

- Both Best and Hand would have three assists for the Red Foxes.
