POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist College student-athletes and other members of the college community took part in a school wide Walk Against Hunger on Wednesday, Nov. 8. The event was part of the college's celebration of hunger awareness during the month of November.
The walk began at the Champagnat breezeway, continued toward Sheahan Hall, headed down past Tenney Stadium, out of the South Gate, up Route 9, in through the college's Main Gate and back to Champagnat. The walk last roughly 30 minutes and participants donated $3 to take part in the great event.
Marist Campus Ministry, the largest club on campus with over 1,000 members, takes the lead on Hunger Awareness Month in November each year. The group puts on five events during the eleventh calendar month, which includes today's hunger run/walk (November 8
th), Buck Hunger Days (November 9
th-10
th), Trip to Lazarus House Ministries (November 17
th-19
th) and a Hunger Awareness Banquet (November 16
th).
The Hunger Awareness Banquet is an "educational" meal intended to demonstrate the distribution of wealth and food in the world and how many people can afford to eat only rice. Participants will receive a ticket to be served either a First, Second, or Third-World meal.
